The Jyotish – Astrology of India
Where does Jyotish come from?
Jyotish, or Vedic (Indian) astrology, originates in ancient oral tradition, passed down from generation to generation, gradually transcribed into four sacred texts collectively called the “Vedas” : Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda. The written compilation is sometimes attributed to Vyasa himself.

The Vedas contain, among other rules, the countless precepts of Jyotish as it is still practiced today. The Brihat Parashara Hora (BPH) by Maharishi Parashara, a fundamental text in Jyotish, is considered as providing the foundations of Vedic Astrology.
Who symbolises Jyotish?
Ganesh, the deity with an elephant’s head on a human body, symbolises Jyotish. He is the son of Shiva and his wife Parvati.

He can create or resolve anyone’s problems; he is the master of all situations. In India, he is honoured and respected everywhere and represents abundance, luck, and protection. He is the fount of all knowledge and embodies understanding.
What is Jyotish? An Astrology of Transformation.

The term Jyotish means “the science of light “ or “the science of heavenly bodies“. Jyotish provides us with a deep understanding of ourselves, simply through close observation of our birth chart. It allows us to grasp all aspects of being: firstly through our basic existence, then through the heart, then by the intellect. Finally, it leads us to an understanding of why the soul is incarnate. For we are not born by chance…The purpose of Jyotish is to help us discover ourselves .The soul has a mission that we must recognise, understand, embrace and absorb.
The planets are manifestations of pure consciousness and their alignment on our birth chart indicates the karma we will experience and transcend in this lifetime. Karma has been formed through the countless memories of the successive lives we have lived so far. We become aware of everything that has been petrified, frozen and encapsulated within us. We seek to vaporise the state that so imprisons us. Thus liberated, we live in freedom. Jyotish elevates us to higher states of consciousness through self- awareness and, thanks to the remedial exercises it offers to counterbalance certain weaknesses imposed by the planets, it is a breathtaking tool at our service.
